Action for Children Saturday Youth Club will be running EVERY Saturday from 8th February 2014 (except during school holidays).

The Youth Club currently runs fortnightly and offers a variety of activities for 4-18 year olds on a Saturday from 9.15am-1pm. Places need to be booked and AFC cannot guarantee a place if less than 2 weeks notice is given. Only 2 bookings can be placed at a time.

Consultation meetings

AFC have organised parent/carer consultation meetings to discuss plans for their upcoming playschemes, day trips and residential trips over the next 12 months. The consultation meetings will take place on the following days:

  • Tuesday 4th March, 1pm at The Willows, 49 Reabrook Avenue, Belle Vue, Shrewsbury, SY3 7PZ.
  • Wednesday 5th March, 9.30am at The Willows (address above).
  • Wednesday 5th March, 6pm at Belle Vue Youth Club, Rocke Street, Shrewsbury. SY3 7PY.

The Albrighton Trust – Transition Project

The Albrighton TrustThe Albrighton Trust charity provides educational, recreational and leisure facilities for mentally, physically and sensory disabled users.

For over 20 years The Albrighton Trust has had a successful record of supporting people of all ages with special needs and their carers by providing high standard facilities and offering a range of confidence and esteem building activities.

The Albrighton Trust is excited to introduce a new transition project for disabled and special needs young people aged 15-25. The ‘Me & You’ project is a Lottery funded project for disabled and special needs young people during their transition years.

The project aims to build the skills, confidence and esteem of disabled and special needs young people by providing positive outdoor activities in a ‘green-blue’ environment.

They will be offering a range of horticultural, angling, wildlife and conservation experiences and skills with the opportunity to gain a qualification if desired.

 Benefits of the project:

  • Enables young people to develop the skills, confidence, esteem, team work, leadership skills and Interpersonal skills.
  • Help young people during the transition period of their lives from full time education to adult life by exploring their options.
  • Introduces new skills and opening up a variety of outdoor learning opportunities in a ‘green-blue’ environment to increase confidence to a point where young people can make life changing decisions, either to progress their education or explore job or volunteering opportunities.
  • To achieve shared goals in a positive environment by giving young people the opportunity to develop personal and practical skills supported  by an enthusiastic, experienced and knowledgeable staff team and volunteers.

Shropshire Short Breaks – invitation to apply for contracts

Shropshire Council logoShropshire’s Short Breaks Team are looking to gain new applications to deliver Short Breaks opportunities in 2014/15 for children with disabilities or additional needs as part of the ‘All In’ programme.

The deadline by which all applications must be received is 5pm on 23rd January 2014.

Charlotte’s Tandems

Charlotte's Tandems logoCharlotte’s Tandems became a Registered Charity in July 2012 and lend tandems to (and only to) people with disabilities or special needs for free, who are unable to ride a bike safely on their own, so that they can enjoy the wonders of cycling. Their borrowers are both children and adults. Tandems are a fun and safe way to get out and about as friends, a couple, family or group. They are available for hire for a couple of months at a time.

Charlotte’s Tandems now have about sixty tandems and tag-alongs all over the UK and are looked after by the Helpers from all over the UK.

The disabilities and special needs of their borrowers have so far included: Severe Learning Difficulties, Autism, Aspergers, Blindness, Visual Impairment, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Stroke, Amputation, Hearing Loss, Dyspraxia, Fybromalgia, Parkinson’s, MS, ME, CRPS, COPD, Hemiplasia, Tuberous Sclerosis, CHARGE & MPS III.

Enjoy a day out at the Black Country Museum before heading to the pub for tea with a night in a hotel before a day of shopping at Merry Hill.

Cost: £70 per child or £150 per family (2 adults & 2 children)*

Jungleland Telford Town Park including bowling & cinema!

Enjoy exclusive use of Jungleland with access to all the activities on offer before sleeping there! A visit to the cinema and tenpin bowling is also included. The evening meal and breakfast is included.

Cost: £70 per child*

Friday 14th March – Sunday 16th March 2014

Trip to Arthog activity centre

Specific activities will be arranged closer to the time depending on the group but activities could include gorge walking, canoeing, rock climbing and many more! The weekend will be custom made to suit the group who will be sleeping in ‘bunk rooms’. All meals are included.

Cost: £100 per child*

*A £10 non-refundable deposit will be required for each person to secure a place. The option of paying in instalments is available.

The Perry Riding Group – new centre study

RDA logo for Perry RidingThe Perry Riding, Driving & Vaulting Group are gaining information from individuals, families and groups to complete a study regarding the proposed new ‘Cavalier Centre’ near Much Wenlock.

Information gathered will help them in their efforts to create a new riding centre that will provide more varied opportunities and cater for more children and adults with disabilities or additional needs than they are currently able to.

As well as horse related opportunities they are also looking to create a specialist outdoor activity playground, an indoor soft play area and training kitchens to support skills development.
